Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to The Powers Mindset Therapy PLLC — an elevated, modern mental health practice serving Chicago’s western suburbs and clients across Illinois. Below are clear answers to the most common questions about therapy, insurance, fees, and how our practice operates.

ABOUT GETTING STARTED

What is an intake assessment?

Your intake assessment is your first session with a Powers Mindset clinician. During this appointment, your therapist completes a comprehensive evaluation of your concerns, history, symptoms, and goals. This session helps determine clinical fit and allows your therapist to build a personalized, aligned treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Do you offer emergency or crisis services?

No. The Powers Mindset Therapy PLLC does not provide crisis or emergency intervention.
If you are experiencing a crisis, please:

Do you see clients outside of Illinois?

Therapy services are available only to clients physically located in Illinois at the time of the appointment.

Our mental health consulting services are available nationwide. Consulting offers mindset support, boundary work, personal development, and emotional wellness guidance — but it is not therapy, cannot diagnose, and is not eligible for insurance billing.

APPOINTMENTS & AVAILABILITY

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes. Therapy and consulting sessions may be available in person at our La Grange, IL office or virtually through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform, depending on clinician availability.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations require at least 24 hours’ notice.
Late cancellations or missed appointments will be billed at the full session fee of $200, as insurance does not reimburse for missed or late-canceled sessions.

FEES & PAYMENT

What are your therapy fees?

Therapy fees vary by service type and clinician. Standard private-pay rates include:

Therapy Sessions

  • Initial Individual Intake (55 min): $225

  • Ongoing Individual Session (53 min): $200

  • Brief Individual Session (30 min): $125

  • Couples Intake (55 min): $275

  • Ongoing Couples Session (53 min): $250

Individual therapist rates may vary depending on experience and specialty.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes — we accept BCBS PPO for therapy services.
All other clients are seen on a private-pay basis.

When using BCBS PPO:

  • We submit claims on your behalf

  • You are responsible for co-pays, deductibles, and any non-covered services

  • BCBS requires a mental health diagnosis for reimbursement

  • A card must remain on file for all balances

  • Insurance does not cover paperwork, administrative time, or missed sessions

Can I use my HSA/FSA card?

Yes. HSA and FSA cards can typically be used to pay for therapy sessions and eligible mental health expenses.

ADMINISTRATIVE, DOCUMENTATION & LEGAL FEES

What are your administrative and documentation fees?

These services are not covered by insurance:

  • Administrative / Case Management: $200/hour (billed in 15-minute increments)

  • Letters, Forms, School or Work Documentation, FMLA/ADA:
$200/hour OR $50 for simple letters under 10 minutes

  • Record Requests: $50 + $0.25 per page

Do you handle legal matters or court involvement?

The Powers Mindset Therapy PLLC does not provide custody evaluations, forensic assessments, or expert witness services.

If a clinician receives a subpoena or legal request, the following rates apply:

Court & Legal Fees

  • Court Testimony / Depositions / Standby: $400/hour

  • Attorney Communication / Consultation: $350/hour

  • Case Review / Documentation Preparation: $300/hour

  • 3-hour minimum for any court appearance

  • Portal-to-portal billing applies

These services are not covered by insurance. Full details are outlined in the Court, Legal & Non-Covered Services Agreement.

GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE (GFE)

Private-pay clients are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate outlining projected costs of care. GFEs are provided upon request or prior to starting treatment, in compliance with federal regulations.

CONSULTING VS. THERAPY

Is mental health consulting the same as therapy?

No. Mental health consulting is a separate service designed for personal growth, mindset support, boundary setting, emotional clarity, and high-performance lifestyle work.

Consulting is not:

  • Diagnosis

  • Clinical treatment

  • Insurance-eligible

  • A substitute for therapy when therapy is clinically indicated

If you need clinical care, your Powers Mindset clinician will recommend therapy instead.
